I think the long winter gave me a better appreciation of spring. I am always amazed to see life survive the cold and darkness of a Michigan winter. I enjoy seeing leaves emerge from barren tree branches and plants sprout from the black earth after remaining dormant through winter. I also love tending my small vegetable and herb garden and seeing my perennials come into bloom. By the time you read this it will be summer, with all the joy that long warm days, cool swims, barbecues and outdoor gatherings bring.
Last month we kicked off our 4th annual Summer of Sharing program. Throughout the summer we will donate $1000 a day for 60 days to local community organizations. Reflecting upon these changes in season, it seems to me like Michigan’s economy is emerging from an economic winter into a spring of its own. Economic seasons are often measured in years rather than months and bring with them their own hardships and joy. Hopefully you are benefiting from our state’s recovery as many of our members are.
